From 1 October 2026, important changes to card payment surcharging will take effect across Australia.
Following changes announced by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), surcharging will no longer be permitted on designated card payments.
If your business currently applies card surcharges, there are a few things you should review before the changes take effect.
What does this mean for your business?
From 1 October 2026, businesses will need to ensure applicable card surcharges have been removed.
Depending on your business, this may include:
- Removing card surcharges from payment terminals and online checkout processes.
- Removing surcharges from any recurring payment arrangements
- Remove or update any surcharge-related messaging across your business, including:
- In-store signage
- Menus
- Online checkout pages
- Customer communications
- Website terms and conditions.
- Reviewing forms or other documentation that reference card surcharges
Your current surcharging arrangements can continue, and existing rules still apply until 30 September 2026.

Disabling Linkly Surcharges
Linkly surcharges can be configured either through ProfiitPlus or the Linkly Control Panel.
To disable Linkly surcharges through ProfiitPlus, please follow the instructions below. If your surcharge is configured through the Linkly Control Panel, please contact Linkly Support for assistance disabling it.
What you need to do in ProfiitPlus
If you currently have card surcharging configured within ProfiitPlus, you will need to update your settings before 1 October 2026.
To disable a credit card surcharge in ProfiitPlus, go to:
Sales Orders & Invoicing → System → Setup Options → Additional Charges
There are three credit card surcharge options:
- Manual EFT Surcharge
- Linkly Surcharge
- Tyro Surcharge
Untick the surcharge option that applies to the payment method your business uses.
Once the relevant option is unticked, ProfiitPlus will no longer apply that credit card surcharge.
Review your pricing
While card surcharging is being removed, businesses will still incur card payment costs, so you may wish to review how these are reflected in your overall pricing.
