For many ProfiitPlus & Alchemii users, working with product variations is already part of your daily operations.
However, creating these variations doesn’t need to be time consuming. While the system already allows you to manage product variations effectively, a new feature coming soon in ProfiitPlus v5.04 and Alchemii v5.04 will automate and significantly streamline the generation of variations.
This new functionality eliminates the need to create each variation individually. Instead, the system automatically generates them for you in a structured, accurate, and consistent format, which reduces manual setup and improves consistency across your inventory.
The Role of the Virtual Parent
At the centre of this new feature is the Virtual Parent item, which acts as the framework that holds the attribute structure and generates the child variations.
This keeps your inventory organised while allowing each variation, whether it’s a 2.4m treated pine length or a 20kg bag of 10mm aggregate, to exist as its own fully traceable stock item.
This approach keeps your inventory structured while maintaining flexibility and accuracy in stock control.
Automatically Generating Variations
(Feature coming soon in v5.04)
Currently, variations are created individually within ProfiitPlus using defined attributes. With the upcoming v5.04 release, variation generation will become significantly more automated.
Once attributes are assigned to a Virtual Parent, the system can generate all valid product combinations automatically. Stock codes can be structured using a base code combined with attribute short codes, prefixes, and delimiters to ensure consistency.
Let’s say you stock decorative stone sold in different:
- Stone Type: River Pebble, Bluestone, Crushed Granite
- Size: 10mm, 20mm
- Packaging: 20kg Bag, 1 Tonne Bulka Bag
- Colour Blend: Natural, Charcoal
Once these attributes are defined under the Virtual Parent (e.g. DECO-STONE), ProfiitPlus will automatically generate all valid combinations.
For example:
Stock Code: DECO DECO-STONE-RP-10-20KG-NAT
Description: Decorative Stone, River Pebble, 10mm, 20kg bag, Natural
Stock Code: DECO-STONE-RP-20-1T-CHAR
Description: Decorative Stone, River Pebble, 20mm, 1 Tonne Bulka Bag, Charcoal
Stock Code: DECO-STONE-BLUE-10-20KG-NAT

Instead of manually creating each SKU, the system generates variations instantly based on your selected attributes. You can then choose which variations to include in your master stock file, selectively omit combinations that aren’t required, or import all valid variations in one action.
Templates can also be saved to reuse variation structures in the future, saving time when introducing similar product lines.
